Caterham Innovation Centre
Caterham Innovation Centre is a new education building designed to provide flexible sixth form study spaces and specialist workshop facilities within the Caterham School campus. The project combines CLT construction, complex architectural detailing, and coordinated technical design to support hands-on learning and innovation.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Innovation Centre provides a new specialist learning environment within the Caterham School campus, combining sixth form study spaces with a large workshop designed to support research and development activities, including electric race car projects. The building uses a CLT superstructure, with a folded origami-style roof form, accessible terraces, and carefully considered external envelope build-ups.
Mihails Cernaks, founder of TA, acted as technical lead during Stage 4 of the project while working at Arcadis IBI. His role focused on developing the architectural concept into a coordinated technical design, including consultant coordination, tender drawings, BIM model management, and detailed resolution of the complex roof geometry, waterproofing strategy, and external shell.
