Colchester Orthopaedic Centre
A newly built elective healthcare facility designed to support high-quality orthopaedic treatment within a modern clinical environment. The project combines modular construction, coordinated technical design, and specialist healthcare planning to deliver efficient operating, recovery, and diagnostic spaces.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Colchester Orthopaedic Centre is a newly built elective healthcare facility for Colchester Hospital, providing eight operating theatres, ancillary clinical rooms, two-stage recovery areas, and diagnostic facilities including X-ray. Designed around modular construction principles, the building supports efficient clinical workflows within a modern orthopaedic treatment environment.
Mihails Cernaks, founder of TA, acted as senior architectural technologist during Stages 4 and 5 of the project while working at Arcadis IBI. His role included building envelope design, optimisation of clinical layouts, coordination of medical equipment with engineers, BIM model management, and production of coordinated construction information.
